In a post on his official X account on Friday, the President expressed gratitude for the opportunity.
“I am grateful to Almighty Allah for the privilege of performing Umrah here in Saudi Arabia. This is a deeply spiritual moment for me, and an opportunity to offer prayers for our beloved country, Nigeria, and all our people,” he wrote.
Tinubu continued, “May Almighty Allah accept our prayers and supplications, grant our nation lasting peace, strengthen our unity, protect our people, and bless our collective efforts to build a more prosperous Nigeria. May He grant us wisdom and strength in the service of our nation and accept our Ibadah. Ameen.”
The accompanying video shows the President, dressed in the traditional white ihram garments worn during the pilgrimage, addressing the media while surrounded by members of his entourage who were also in ihram.
Tinubu arrived in Jeddah on Thursday evening and was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Saudi officials.
The Presidency had earlier described the visit as an opportunity for “spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress.”
Officials dismissed speculation that the trip was for medical reasons, stating that the President was travelling specifically to perform the lesser hajj and to seek divine guidance for the country.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the rites, Dailyeconomy reports.
The visit comes as the President prepares for the next general election cycle.
He had previously performed Umrah in 2022 ahead of major political milestones, including the APC presidential primary and the presidential election.
