Manchester United could be without Amad Diallo for up to six weeks after initial scans on the winger’s training injury reportedly raised concerns, with further tests required before the club confirms the severity of the setback, Dailyeconomy gathered.
The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international missed United’s 2-0 Premier League opening-day defeat to newly promoted Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday after picking up what interim manager Michael Carrick initially described as a “niggle” in training.
Carrick said the club hoped the issue would not keep the forward out for long, but the latest indication suggests a potentially more significant absence.
Diallo had been expected to play a prominent role for United after an encouraging pre-season and his contribution for Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored twice.
He registered two goals and four assists in 32 Premier League appearances last season.
His absence was felt as United slipped to a surprise defeat against Hull, who scored twice from first-half set pieces through Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy.
United dominated possession and territory but failed to find a way through the home side’s defence, beginning their 2026-27 campaign with a damaging loss.
Diallo offers United a distinctive right-sided threat through his dribbling, direct running and ability to create chances in tight spaces.
Without him, Carrick deployed an attacking group featuring Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha against Hull, but the side lacked incision despite controlling much of the ball.
A six-week lay-off would reduce United’s attacking rotation options during the opening stretch of the season and could place greater creative responsibility on Fernandes, while Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Šeško and younger alternatives may be asked to cover the minutes.
United are awaiting the outcome of further assessments before issuing a definitive diagnosis and recovery timetable.
