The Nigerian Army has announced the elimination of three prominent Boko Haram/ISWAP leaders—Amir Abu Ali, Amir Ibunu, and Amir Abu Waldume—in intense gunbattles at Mallam Fatori and Buratai, Borno State.
The operation, confirmed Thursday on the Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, is a major blow to insurgent leadership in the region.
The statement said, “Three prominent Boko Haram/ISWAP leaders Amir Abu Ali, Amir Ibunu, and Amir Abu Waldume eliminated in Mallam Fatori and Buratai fierce gunbattles.”
Mallam Fatori and Buratai, known hotspots for insurgent activity, have seen repeated clashes in recent months as Boko Haram and ISWAP intensify attacks in northeastern Nigeria.
This latest success follows a series of targeted operations by the Nigerian Army aimed at dismantling terrorist strongholds and restoring peace to Borno State and the wider northeast.
