Premier League champions Arsenal have confirmed that manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new four-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2030.

The announcement cements Arteta’s position as the longest-serving manager in England’s top four divisions.

The 44-year-old Spaniard took charge in December 2019 and guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.

Arteta expressed his commitment in a statement released by the club on Wednesday, “It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal. This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue. We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

He added, “I’m extremely grateful to Stan and Josh Kroenke for their trust and support, and feel honoured to be leading this club through such a special period in its 140-year history. This is such a proud moment for me and my family. I feel the love and respect from our fantastic supporters, and they have mine and ours in return.”

Arteta arrived at Arsenal as head coach in December 2019 after serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

He inherited a side that had finished fifth the previous season and gradually rebuilt the squad, focusing on young talent and a high-pressing, possession-based style.

After three successive runners-up finishes in the Premier League, Arsenal finally ended their long wait for the title in the 2025/26 campaign.

The club also reached the Champions League final last season.

His previous contract had been due to expire at the end of the current season (or summer 2027 according to some reports).

The new deal includes a significant pay rise that reportedly makes him the highest-paid manager in the Premier League.

Members of his backroom staff are also understood to be extending their contracts on similar terms.

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick described the extension as an important moment in the club’s history, stating the desire to “create a winning era together with Mikel.”
