Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy has responded sharply to the backlash that followed his proposal to hold a free concert in Burkina Faso.
The response came after critics mocked the initiative and claimed he was allegedly rejected by the President of Burkina Faso.
In a fiery response posted on his social media accounts, Burna Boy addressed his intentions and criticised those questioning his motives.
The singer noted that his actions are guided by principle, not personal gain.
Burna Boy said he was shocked by the surprisingly negative and offensive comments from some individuals.
He wrote, “I have nothing to gain from anybody. I don’t owe anyone anything, but that never stopped me from doing the great work I do.
“My integrity is unquestionable. Therefore burn in hell if you said anything negative.”
The artist’s bold message has sparked a heated debate online, with many fans rallying behind him, praising his courage and passion.
Local cultural commentators have weighed in as well, suggesting that the criticism may stem from misunderstandings or political tensions rather than the artist’s performance itself.
“Burna Boy is a global icon whose music transcends borders.
“It’s unfortunate that some have chosen to focus on negativity instead of the joy his music brings,” said Awa Traoré, a Burkina Faso-based music journalist.
