Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has reportedly told the club he wants to leave Stamford Bridge, with his representatives reportedly in contact with Real Madrid, according to multiple sources.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reports Chelsea would prefer to retain the 24-year-old Argentina international but are prepared to consider offers.

The club is demanding a club-record fee of €138 million for Fernández, a figure that would surpass Chelsea’s previous transfer records and reflect the midfielder’s rapid rise since his move to the Premier League.

Fernández, who has been a key figure in Chelsea’s midfield since arriving, informed the club of his desire to pursue a new challenge, prompting immediate engagement between his agents and potential suitors.

Real Madrid — long linked with midfield reinforcements and noted for interest in high-profile Argentine players — has held preliminary talks, sources say, though no formal bid has been lodged.

Chelsea’s stance, as reported, is firm on valuation but pragmatic on departure: while the club would rather keep Fernández for the coming season, it recognises the player’s wish to leave and is willing to negotiate if the €138m price is met.

The fee would reflect both transfer market inflation and Fernández’s performances, which include important contributions domestically and in European competition.

If a deal with Real Madrid or another elite club materialises, it would represent one of the most expensive midfield transfers in history and a major reshuffle for Chelsea’s squad planning ahead of the 2026–27 season.
