The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has announced the commencement of its 2026 Insurance Week, scheduled to hold from May 18 to May 22, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen insurance awareness, enhance stakeholder engagement, and strengthen collaboration within the nation’s insurance industry.
The President/Chairman of the CIIN Governing Council, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, made the announcement during a virtual media briefing in Lagos, where she described Insurance Week as a strategic initiative aimed at improving public understanding of insurance and expanding its relevance across different segments of society.
She said the 2026 edition, themed “Insurance: A Future Redefined,” builds on the success of the maiden edition held in 2025, which was simultaneously staged in Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Kano. According to her, this year’s programme will have a broader reach with activities extended to Ekiti, Abuja, Ondo, Owerri and Abeokuta.
Ilori explained that the initiative is designed to promote insurance education, correct long-standing misconceptions about the sector, and encourage greater participation, particularly among young people and emerging professionals.
“We want insurance to be better understood as a key driver of financial stability and economic growth. These misconceptions cannot be corrected within offices alone; they must be taken to the public space,” she said.
She outlined several activities lined up for the week-long celebration, including a wellness and awareness walk, the unveiling of two insurance education books for elementary school pupils, and panel discussions featuring participants from outside the insurance industry to provide broader perspectives on the sector.
Other highlights include recognition awards for individuals and corporate organisations, the appointment of industry ambassadors, engagement sessions with schools and MSMEs, and a demo day for a hackathon designed to promote innovation in the insurance space.
Ilori also highlighted achievements recorded during the 2025 edition, noting improved industry participation, stronger collaboration, and increased awareness. She appreciated media support and called for continued partnership to ensure the success of the 2026 programme.
“All CIIN chapters will be actively involved this year to strengthen inclusivity and deepen impact,” she added.
