Over 1,500 professionals have transitioned into seasoned tax professionals and become members through the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN)’s Tax Academy’s Legal Practitioner Conversion Training Programme.

This was disclosed during CITN’s three-day Legal Practitioner Conversion Training Programme which commenced virtually on Tuesday. Through the training programme, the CITN aims to bridge the knowledge gap for legal professionals seeking to specialise in taxation.

It also sought to equip participants with skills in tax administration, compliance, and enforcement, including areas like transfer pricing and tax audit.

Speaking during the event, the CITN President, Samuel Agbeluyi, underscored the importance of integrating legal practitioners into the tax profession to drive excellence in Nigeria’s tax system.

He said, “This programme is not just a pathway to CITN membership; it is an opportunity to integrate into a dynamic professional network committed to driving tax excellence in Nigeria.”

Agbeluyi urged the participants to continually expand their knowledge in taxation through the various programmes of the institute.

Some of these programmes, he noted, include the Mandatory Professional Training Programme, Annual Tax Conference, to mention a few.

Also, speaking during the virtual Legal Practitioner Conversion Training Programme, the Deputy Director, CITN Tax Academy, Yetunde Suleiman, noted that the initiative aims to dress up the competence of tax professionals by providing updated knowledge in tax practice and administration.

While noting that the programme is part of the Institute’s mission to raise standards in tax education and practice in Nigeria, Suleiman said, “I am happy to inform you that through the Academy platform, over 1500 professionals have transitioned into seasoned tax professionals as members of the Institute.”
