Against this backdrop of transformation, Continental Reinsurance announced the winners of the inaugural CRe Insurance Awards for Africa, unveiled during its CEO Summit held in Kigali, Rwanda.
At the event, industry players across the continent were recognised under two main categories—the CRe Emerging Champions Award and the CRe Momentum Award—highlighting excellence in innovation, performance, and strategic advancement within Africa’s insurance sector.
In the Momentum Award category, Cornerstone Insurance Plc emerged as second-place winner, in recognition of its ongoing digital transformation drive and business model restructuring. The insurer was commended for deploying artificial intelligence-driven tools across underwriting and customer engagement, strengthening efficiency and customer experience.
The company’s shift towards a retail-heavy strategy, targeting an 80/20 retail-to-corporate mix, alongside the expansion of its agency network from about 1,000 to 2,000 agents, was also noted as a key growth initiative. Its diversified structure, including subsidiaries Fin and Hilal, further reinforced its long-term expansion outlook.
According to organisers, 28 entries were received across both categories, with 11 submitted under Emerging Champions and 17 under Momentum. Three finalists were shortlisted in each category following evaluation by an independent panel comprising Chakib Abouzaid, Lorraine Njue, Alex Aquereburu, Tosin Runsewe, and Steve Oluoch.
