Customs intercepts parts of 140 rifles, seizes cannabis products worth N373.8m in Lagos

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has claimed it has intercepted a container concealing parts of more than 140 pump-action rifles and seized cannabis-infused products worth ₦373.8 million at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos.
In a statement, the service’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, said the rifle components, preliminarily identified as Jojeff pump-action rifles, were discovered after the container was flagged by the NCS’s intelligence-driven risk management system.
According to him, two suspects were arrested in connection with the seizure, while another suspect remains at large.
In a separate operation, customs officers seized 109 cartons of Delta-8 cannabis-infused pre-roll cookies, 125 cartons of gummies and 73 cartons of cannabis-infused cookies concealed alongside other imported goods.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, warned that criminal networks could exploit Nigeria’s borders during the upcoming election cycle.
Adeniyi said the service would intensify its security operations and tackle internal complicity, while urging Nigerians to provide credible intelligence to support efforts by the NCS and sister security agencies to combat smuggling and protect the nation’s borders.
