The Delta State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered a large quantity of suspected illicit and controlled substances in Sapele Local Government Area, the command said on Monday.
In a statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Sp. Bright Edafe, the VCRU acted on credible intelligence and on 22 May 2026 at about 0530hrs carried out a targeted operation at a suspected dealers’ hideout in the Amukpe area of Sapele.
The operation led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Onyedikachi, male, 40, and Edna Karaki, female, 36, both residents of Amukpe, Sapele.
“A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of large quantities of suspected illicit and controlled drugs, including Tramadol, CSC Codeine, Molly, Swinol, Vagadine, Red Boy, Zaza, Taker, and other substances suspected to be harmful drugs,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigation, the police said, revealed the suspects were allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of the recovered substances, and during interrogation the pair “reportedly confessed to dealing in controlled drugs.”
They remain in custody while a discreet investigation continues to determine the full scope of their activities and identify other network members.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the operatives for the successful operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and related criminality.
Noting that illicit drug abuse “fuels crimes such as cultism, armed robbery, and other violent offences,” the CP urged the public to support intelligence-led policing by providing credible information.
Members of the public were asked to report suspicious persons or activities to the Command Control Room on 08036684974 or the VCRU on 09123772889.
