EFCC returns N108m recovered from former employees to Lagos company

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over the sum of N108 million to Karren Walters Attorneys in Lagos, representing part of funds recovered during an investigation into alleged abuse of office, forgery, stealing and diversion by two former employees of the company.
The commission said the money was returned in bank drafts on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, through its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2.
According to the EFCC, the suspects, Nkechi Gladys Megai, who is now at large after fleeing to the United Kingdom, and Godson Eze, a former Chief Financial Officer, were accused of forging documents, creating fake invoices in the names of legitimate vendors, and diverting company funds through fraudulent transactions over time.
The agency added that the “fraudulent payments ran into several hundreds of millions of naira.”
At the handover ceremony, the Acting Zonal Director of Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, said the Commission remains committed to helping victims recover stolen assets and obtain justice.
He said, “efforts are ongoing to ensure that all persons connected with the fraud, including those who have fled the country, are brought to justice in accordance with the law.”
The company’s legal representatives praised the EFCC for its “painstaking investigation, professionalism and commitment to recovering the stolen funds,” adding that the recovered money would help reduce the losses suffered by the company.
