Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s (MMIA) Terminal 3 (T3) experienced a temporary shutdown on Wednesday following an electrical incident, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed in an official memo.
The disruption occurred at approximately 14:05 hours when “an electrical spark in an operational office resulted in smoke emission,” prompting a swift response from airport authorities.
FAAN stated that “Electrical maintenance is currently ongoing to ensure that all electrical systems are functioning optimally ahead of the Terminal’s reopening.”
In the meantime, “All flights that currently operate from Terminal 3 have been diverted to Terminal 2, passengers are hereby advised accordingly.”
The agency emphasised that “the situation is under control, as personnel of the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) promptly responded and contained the incident.”
No injuries were reported, and FAAN assured travelers that operations would resume normally soon.
