The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to deploy a new biometric facial recognition system called V-Pass.

The plan according to a statement obtained from FAAN on Thursday aimed at transforming passenger processing at domestic airports across the country

In an X (formerly Twitter), FAAN detailed the initiative, “The new biometric facial recognition system will make passenger processing faster, safer, and more seamless across FAAN-managed domestic airports.

“With a simple one-time enrolment, passengers can verify their identity through facial recognition, reducing reliance on physical ID documents, enhancing security, and shortening queues through automated e-Gates.”

The authority emphasised that the system prioritises data privacy, stating it is “built with data privacy at its core and compliant with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).”

FAAN described V-Pass as “another step in FAAN’s commitment to delivering smarter, technology-driven airport services.”
