The Federal Government has released funds for the full payment of the eight-month Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) to academic staff in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, covering January to August 2026.

Announcing the development on Tuesday in Abuja after inaugurating the Ministerial Committee on Accreditation, Education Minister Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa described the release as a clear signal that the centre is honouring approved agreements and putting staff welfare first.

“This payment is being implemented in line with the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN–ASUU) Agreement,” Alausa said, adding that all federal tertiary institutions had been notified to commence disbursement to eligible academic staff.

While the academic component is now funded, the ministry indicated that corresponding allowances for non-academic staff are being finalised, with funding expected within the coming weeks.

Alausa tied the move to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving welfare, infrastructure and overall quality across the education sector.

In a press release signed on Wednesday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the Federal Ministry of Education pledged to ensure effective implementation of approved interventions and agreements across the sector.
