Four died, several injured in fatal accident in Ibadan

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has confirmed the death of four people in the road accident that occurred in the Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State on Tuesday.

According to a statement made available by the Oyo State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Rosemary Alo, those who lost their lives according to the FRSC are a male and three females.

Alo said the accident which occured at Soka area involved seven vehicles and eleven people.

She confirmed that those who sustained various degrees of injuries have been rushed to hospital for medical attention.

She thereby advised drivers to desist from excessive speeding, enjoining them to always embrace defensive driving techniques while on the road.

“No of Veh involved: 07. Number Injured:1(01MA). Number Killed:04(01MA,03FA). Number Involved:11(08MA,03FA). Number of injured victims taken to the Hospital: 01MA.

“The injured victim was rescued by officers from Sanyo Police station before arrival of the rescue team while the corpse were deposited at Adeoyo morgue ring road Ibadan, however Sanyo police DTO ASP ADESINA Oluwole take charge of accidented vehicles one of the corpse was handed over to the relative with the express permission of Sanyo DPO.

“Drivers are advised to desist from excessive speeding and should always embrace defensive driving techniques while on the road, the statement reads.

According to an eyewitness, the accident happened when a trailer in front collided with another trailer that was attempting to reverse out of an abandoned filling station near Soka.

This led to a chain reaction, as three other trailers coming behind, following too closely, also collided, crashing into four Micra vehicles and a Camry.

While several passengers sustained severe injuries, one particular Micra was completely crushed, leading to the death of the driver and three other passengers.

A couple who boarded the Micra from Sanyo, just one bus stop away from the scene, were also involved in the crash.

Tragically, the wife died on the spot, while the husband, who was seated in the front, survived with minor injuries.

This marks the sixth fatal accident recorded in that axis this year.
