Funmilayo Omo elected to CIIN Governing Council

Mrs. Funmilayo Omo, a distinguished insurance executive and renowned advocate of financial inclusion, has been elected as a member of the Governing Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
Her election was announced at the institute’s 55th Annual General Meeting (AGM), recently held in Lagos, where members of the council were elected to provide strategic direction for the professional body.
Omo, a former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Zenith Life Insurance Company Nigeria, is a highly respected insurance executive with over three decades of industry experience, recognised for her contributions to insurance growth, innovation and financial inclusion in Nigeria.
Prior to her role at Prudential Zenith Life, she served as the pioneer Managing Director of Enterprise Life Assurance Nigeria, where she spent five years leading the company’s expansion and driving the adoption of digital solutions to improve insurance accessibility and customer engagement.
She had earlier served as Managing Director of African Alliance Insurance Plc, where she played a key role in repositioning the company and strengthening its operations through technology-driven initiatives.
A strong advocate of insurance penetration, Omo has consistently championed the integration of insurance into personal and corporate financial planning, stressing the importance of insurance in achieving long-term financial security.
Her industry leadership has earned her several recognitions, including being named among the African Insurance Organization’s Top 50 Women in Insurance in 2022, Leading Ladies Africa’s Top 50 Leading Ladies in Corporate Nigeria, and one of Africa’s Top 100 Women CEOs by Reset Global People in 2019.
Beyond her new role at CIIN, Omo serves as Chairman of the Institute’s Education Committee and Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association’s Advisory Committee on Life Insurance. She is also a member of the Nigerian Insurance Industry AfCTA Committee.
She is an alumna of China European International Business School and Lagos Business School, and a chartered insurer with professional affiliations including the Chartered Insurance Institute, London, and the Institute of Directors.
