Manchester United legend, Edwin van der Sar has showered praise on new signing Senne Lammens, declaring the young Belgian goalkeeper has all the tools to thrive as the club’s long-term starter in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old joined United from Royal Antwerp in September 2025 and impressed in Monday’s crucial win over Everton on February 23, pulling off standout saves to secure the three points.
Van der Sar, United’s iconic Dutch keeper from 2005-2011, endorsed Lammens in a recent We Are The Overlap interview, highlighting his grounded mentality and physical edge.
“He’s a Belgian, so I think he has his feet on the ground. Belgium and the Netherlands are quite similar,” Van der Sar said.
“He’s doing well. He meets the physical demands of the Premier League well. I see him coming out to claim the ball at the penalty spot, he shows confidence, makes saves when necessary, without trying to make unnecessary saves.”
The former United captain, who won four Premier League titles during his tenure, added, “I’m not there every day and I don’t see all the matches, but he seems to have everything it takes to stay here for a long time.”
Van der Sar’s glowing assessment comes amid United’s goalkeeper transition following André Onana’s departure, signalling strong internal belief in Lammens as the future No. 1.
