Jorge Messi, the father and longtime agent of Argentina and Inter Miami star Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68 after a prolonged illness.
According to Argentine outlet Infobae, Jorge died on Friday night at a medical clinic in Rosario, Argentina, where he had been receiving treatment.
Jorge had reportedly been under medical care for several months.
His health became a subject of public attention during Argentina’s 2026 World Cup campaign, when false reports about his death circulated.
The Messi family subsequently requested privacy and confirmed that he was receiving medical treatment.
A central figure in Lionel Messi’s life and career, Jorge moved with his son to Barcelona in 2000 and supported his development from a young academy prospect into one of football’s greatest players.
He also served as Messi’s representative and was involved in major stages of his career, including his moves from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain and later Inter Miami.
