Liverpool reject £85m Man City bid for Gakpo, turn to Ndiaye, Fernández

Liverpool has rejected an £85 million bid from Manchester City for Cody Gakpo, with the Dutch forward agreeing to remain at Anfield for the rest of the season.
Gakpo, 27, had been linked with a late move to the Etihad Stadium and was reportedly open to joining Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, Liverpool decided against sanctioning his departure after failing to secure a suitable replacement before the transfer deadline.

The Reds’ decision came despite strengthening their attacking options with the signing of Bradley Barcola, as the club were unwilling to allow Gakpo leave without bringing in another forward.

Gakpo has now accepted Liverpool’s position and is prepared to continue his campaign with the Premier League champions.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are expected to shift their attention to other attacking targets, with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández among the players being considered as the club seek reinforcements.
