Manchester United are closing in on an agreement to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba after submitting an offer worth around £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The proposal remains below Brighton’s valuation, but negotiations are described as amicable, with all parties working towards a deal.

The 22-year-old Cameroon international has been a long-term target for United, who have been impressed by his ground coverage, ball-winning ability, passing range, and left-footed profile.

The club reportedly monitored Baleba closely, including during the Africa Cup of Nations.

Baleba has allegedly made joining Manchester United his priority since August 2025.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the midfielder agreed personal terms with United a year ago, and that the understanding between the player and the club remains valid.

The Brighton midfielder is said to have continued pushing for the transfer despite recently suffering a minor ankle ligament injury during pre-season.

The injury is not expected to result in a prolonged absence, although it could delay his start if the move is completed.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in 2023 and has made 112 appearances for the club.

United’s potential deal would make him the club’s third midfield addition of the summer, following the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

Sky Sports reports that Baleba could travel to Manchester for a medical, with United preparing a five-year contract.

However, the final transfer fee and structure are yet to be agreed.
