Manchester United has assigned Marcus Rashford the No. 14 shirt as a clear indication that the forward remains part of manager Michael Carrick’s plans for the 2026/27 season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rashford is now travelling with United’s squad and is set to wear the number following his return from loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona.

The England international wore No. 9 during his time at Aston Villa and No. 14 at Barcelona.

His long-held No. 10 shirt at United was taken by new signing Matheus Cunha.

Rashford’s reintegration comes after Barcelona chose not to make his loan move permanent.

He is now expected to train with United’s first-team squad for the first time in more than 18 months, following confirmation from Carrick that he would join the team’s pre-season camp in Ireland.

The decision to give Rashford the No. 14 shirt is being viewed as a message of trust and inclusion from the club, rather than an indication that he is being pushed towards the exit.

Romano reports that Rashford is likely to remain at Old Trafford for the new season unless a substantial offer arrives from a top European club.

The 28-year-old remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028.
