Manchester United have identified Real Madrid’s France international Aurélien Tchouaméni and Bournemouth’s rising England midfielder Alex Scott as priority targets as they plan midfield reinforcements ahead of the 2026/27 season, sources close to the club say.

United see Tchouaméni — a combative, ball-playing midfielder who joined Real Madrid from Monaco in 2023 — as an experienced option capable of anchoring and linking play in Carrick’s midfield.

However, any move faces significant obstacles: Real Madrid are understood to be in the midst of a wider squad rebuild and are reluctant to part with established first-team players, while Tchouaméni’s contract situation and high market value would command a substantial fee.

Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, another name on United’s shortlist, represents a different proposition: a young, dynamic English midfielder whose performances in the Premier League have attracted attention across the top clubs.

Bournemouth, however, have shown little appetite to sell homegrown talent, and would likely demand a premium for a player so central to their project and progression.
