Kylian Mbappé etched his name into French football history on Tuesday night, scoring twice as France beat Senegal 3-1 in a 2026 World Cup group-stage match and surpassing Olivier Giroud to become Les Bleus’ outright leading scorer.
Mbappé’s brace took him to 58 goals in 99 appearances for France, eclipsing Giroud’s long-standing record.
The second strike proved particularly significant, the one that moved him clear at the top of the national team’s scoring charts.
The milestone arrived in a hard-fought clash in which Senegal initially posed a strong challenge, but Mbappé’s clinical finishing turned the game in France’s favour.
His multiple goals not only secured the victory but underlined his status at age 27 as France’s most prolific international scorer, a mark unmatched by any previous Les Bleus player.
