NANS calls for mobilisation after ex-FUOYE SUG President remanded in prison

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans for peaceful protests after the immediate past FUOYE Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Adio, was remanded in custody by a Magistrate Court in Ekiti State in a case he originally brought to the court.
In an official statement, NANS said the development is “deeply disturbing” because Comrade Adio “was the complainant and had no criminal case against him.”
The association accused the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the presiding magistrate of reversing the position of the matter and described the action as “judicial rascality, a gross abuse of due process, and a violation of Comrade Adio’s fundamental rights.”
NANS National President Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez said he had “immediately directed the NANS JCC Chairman, Ekiti Axis, and the NANS National Head of Administration to begin mobilization.”
He added that “peaceful actions will be taken to demand justice, including lawful protests at the Ekiti State High Court, the Magistrate Court, and the office of the DPP, until Comrade Adio is released and justice is served.”
The statement emphasised that NANS “will not stand by while the rights of Nigerian students are trampled upon” and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to “defending justice, the rule of law, and the fundamental rights of every Nigerian student.”
