NCAA launches aviation radio, first Internet station for civil aviation

Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has begun test broadcasting for Aviation Radio, the country’s first internet radio service dedicated to civil aviation, with official commissioning planned by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo once permits and staff training are concluded.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA Director of Public Affairs, announced the milestone in a statement on Thursday, confirming that test transmissions started this week.
Visuals from the test phase show the illuminated Aviation Radio logo in the studio, with male and female hosts wearing headphones and speaking into microphones as part of the trial run.
Achimugu outlined the station’s core offerings, which will focus on real-time, practical information for travellers and industry stakeholders.
He said, “AVIATION RADIO will bring you unique programmes, including real time announcements from the airport terminals; boarding calls, delayed/cancelled flights, and flight schedules.
“The DGCA, who approved this project – the first in the history of civil aviation in Nigeria – also has a weekly programme as well as all directors in the NCAA.
“There will be updates per regulations, rights and responsibilities of all stakeholders, and stories from other aviation agencies. We will bring you updates from the rest of the world, among other interesting shows.”
The service is still in its test phase, with full launch contingent on regulatory permits and completion of staff training.
Achimugu stated, “As soon as all permits are in and staff training concluded, the project will be commissioned by the Honourable Minister, Festus Keyamo, SAN.”
Once commissioned, Aviation Radio is expected to serve as a dedicated channel for flight information, regulatory updates, and curated programmes featuring the Director-General of Civil Aviation and NCAA directors, positioning it as a specialised information hub for Nigeria’s aviation sector.
