The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise and deepen their collaboration on data protection awareness and compliance across Nigeria.
The agreement, signed by NDPC National Commissioner/CEO Dr Vincent Olatunji and NOA Director-General Dr Lanre Onilu, sets out a framework for joint initiatives including capacity building and training for NOA personnel, coordinated public awareness campaigns, and an action plan to expand data protection messaging across traditional and digital media.
Dr Olatunji said the MoU “provides a framework for joint initiatives, including capacity building and training for NOA personnel, coordinated public awareness campaigns, and the development of an action plan to expand data protection messaging across traditional and digital media.”
He added that, with awareness a core mandate of the NDPC, the partnership would leverage NOA’s nationwide platform “to deepen citizens’ understanding of their data protection rights and promote compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act), 2023.”
In his remarks, Dr Onilu commended the NDPC under Dr Olatunji for progress in strengthening Nigeria’s data protection ecosystem and congratulated him on the commissioning of the commission’s new headquarters.
He acknowledged the significant work ahead and reaffirmed NOA’s commitment “to working with the NDPC to broaden public awareness, strengthen compliance, and contribute to building a more privacy-conscious Nigeria.”
