Cologne, Germany – In a significant move aimed at catalyzing sustainable finance and climate action in Africa, the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) today formally launched the NGX Net Zero Programme (N-Zero) at a signing ceremony held at the headquarters of the German Investment and Development Company (DEG), a subsidiary of KfW, in Cologne, Germany.

Delivering the welcome remarks at the event, Chairman of NGX Group, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, emphasized that the collaboration with DEG represents more than a formal agreement—it is a shared commitment to climate leadership, long-term economic resilience, and the advancement of sustainable investing across Nigeria and the broader African region.

> “The NGX Net Zero Programme is a bold step that underscores our resolve to position the Nigerian capital market as a leading hub for green and sustainable finance solutions,” Dr. Kwairanga stated. “With the support of partners like DEG and African Foresight Group, we are creating real pathways for listed companies to transition to net-zero emissions.”

Highlighting the global urgency around climate change, Dr. Kwairanga reiterated the NGX Group’s leadership role in aligning capital markets with the principles of sustainability and responsible investing.

The partnership with DEG is expected to unlock innovative financing models, enhance investor confidence, and attract global ESG capital to the Nigerian market. The NGX Group will host and publicize the N-Zero platform, onboard listed companies, and provide strategic oversight to ensure transparency and impact.

“This partnership is not just about today’s signing. It’s about the future we are committed to building—a future where capital markets play a leading role in climate action,” Dr. Kwairanga concluded.

The event marks a new era for climate finance in Nigeria and reinforces NGX Group’s position at the forefront of Africa’s sustainable finance transformation.
