The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has expressed condolences to the families of the 25 military officers, airmen and flight crew members who died in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash near Igbokoda, Ondo State.
The NIA, in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday, said the insurance industry was committed to providing financial support and prompt relief to beneficiaries and affected institutions following the tragedy.
The NIA Chairman, Mrs Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, described the incident as a devastating loss to the nation and expressed condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Chief of Air Staff, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Federal Ministry of Aviation, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and other aviation stakeholders.
Nwachukwu said the loss of the personnel represented an irreparable blow to Nigeria’s national security framework, adding that their service and sacrifice would remain etched in the nation’s memory.
She said the insurance industry stood ready to fulfil its obligations to the affected families.
“The Nigerian Insurance Industry stands fully prepared to honour its obligations,” Nwachukwu said.
She added that member insurance companies had been directed to prioritise and expedite the processing of all valid claims arising from the incident.
According to her, the directive was aimed at ensuring that the families of the fallen personnel receive the financial support and benefits to which they are entitled without unnecessary administrative delays.
The NIA also prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved families and the peaceful repose of the deceased.
