The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian-Americans who secured elective offices in the United States midterm elections held on November 3, 2026.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Dabiri-Erewa wrote, “Hearty congratulations to Nigerian Americans who won elections in the US. Wishing all of them great success.”

Among the confirmed winners are Will Jawando, who was elected Montgomery County Executive in Maryland after defeating his Republican opponent with a strong margin; Junior Ezeonu, a 27-year-old who won a seat in the Texas House of Representatives for District 101; Oye Owolewa, who secured an at-large seat on the District of Columbia Council; and Carol Kazeem, who retained her seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for District 159.

Other candidates of Nigerian descent, including Segun Adeyina in Georgia’s House District 110, were reported as leading or winning in early results, with some sources noting additional successes in state legislative races in Georgia and elsewhere.

Results in certain contests remained subject to final certification.
