The Nigeria Super Eagles have been drawn in Group L for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, where they will face Madagascar, Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau.
“The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group L of the AFCON 2027 Qualifiers,” the Super Eagles wrote in a statement posted on X.
The draw announcement set off a wave of reaction from supporters still smarting from Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Many replies to the post expressed frustration and compared the AFCON draw message to how other national teams unveiled their World Cup squads, highlighting lingering disappointment over missed global qualification.
Seeded highly on the basis of their FIFA ranking, Nigeria go into the group as clear favourites and are expected to challenge strongly for one of the qualification slots that would send them to the finals scheduled to be hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
