Nigeria, Germany set for high-level bilateral consultations in Abuja

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that high-level bilateral consultations will be held with Germany on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, aimed at strengthening the longstanding relations between the two countries.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry on Tuesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, will receive the German Minister for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Johann David Wadephul, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
“The visit reflects the enduring partnership between Nigeria and Germany, which spans several decades and is anchored on mutual respect, shared democratic values, economic cooperation, and a common commitment to promoting regional and global peace, security, stability and sustainable development,” the statement said.
Germany is described as one of Nigeria’s foremost strategic partners in Europe, with cooperation covering trade and investment, renewable energy, climate action, technical assistance, education, healthcare, migration, agriculture, digital innovation, and security.
The bilateral consultations are expected to review progress on existing agreements and explore new opportunities, particularly in expanding economic and commercial partnerships, attracting German investment into Nigeria’s priority sectors, renewable energy and green industrialisation, vocational education, skills development, science, technology, and innovation.
The Ministry expressed confidence that the visit will further strengthen relations.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is confident that the visit of the German Foreign Minister will further strengthen the excellent relations between Nigeria and Germany while reaffirming the shared resolve of both countries to address common global challenges through dialogue, partnership and constructive engagement,” the release concluded.
