Nigeria’s economy recorded a 4.43 per cent year-on-year growth in real terms in the second quarter of 2026, up from the 4.23 per cent growth posted in the corresponding period of 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The NBS in a report released on Monday said nominal Gross Domestic Product stood at N119.29 trillion during the quarter, while real GDP was valued at N53.47 trillion.

The bureau stated in its report, “Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.43% (year-on-year) in real terms in the second quarter of 2026, higher than the 4.23% recorded in the second quarter of 2025.”

Non-oil activities remained the dominant driver of economic output, contributing 95.84 per cent to GDP in the period under review, while the oil sector accounted for 4.16 per cent.

The services sector maintained its position as the largest contributor to the economy, accounting for 56.62 per cent of total GDP.

Agriculture followed with a 26.15 per cent contribution, while industries contributed 17.23 per cent.

Oil production averaged 1.72 million barrels per day in the second quarter of 2026.

The sector’s performance comes amid a broader historical trend that showed annual growth of 3.87 per cent in 2025.

The latest figures highlight the continuing importance of non-oil sectors, particularly services and agriculture, in supporting Nigeria’s economic expansion despite the relatively small share of crude oil production in total output.
