Nigerian singer Orezi has sparked online debate by criticising the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)’s 2026 policy, which sets the minimum university admission score at 150 out of 400—a threshold he called “too low.”

In post on Instagram, Orezi expressed shock, writing, “What is happening? A decline in education? I scored 224 in jamb back then and my chances of getting admission into unilag was 30% Finnaly got it… even though I didn’t get my first choice of study Crazy … 150 cut off mark This kids no Dey read again oo lol Too low mehn.”

The policy, announced after a meeting with heads of tertiary institutions, also establishes 150 as the minimum for colleges of nursing, 100 for polytechnics, and maintains the entry age at 16, Dailyeconomy reports.

While institutions can set higher departmental cut-offs, the baseline has drawn backlash, with many replies echoing Orezi’s concerns over falling education standards and reduced student effort.
