On the third day of the #PensionRevolution2.0, the National Pension Commission (PenCom) unveiled two key regulatory instruments, the Revised Regulation on the Investment of Pension Fund Assets and a Circular on Securities Lending and Repurchase Transactions.

A statement released by PenCom shows the move aligns with the earlier declaration by PenCom’s Director-General, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, on the Commission’s unprecedented daily release of new regulations and initiatives aimed at raising standards across critical pillars of the pension system.

The much-anticipated Revised Investment Regulation introduces reforms designed to expand investment opportunities for pension funds, generate improved returns, and help preserve the purchasing power of retirees. Similarly, the Circular on Securities Lending and Repurchase Transactions creates new investment outlets for pension funds, broadening the scope of the market.

According to the Commission, the two instruments strengthen key pillars of the #PensionRevolution2.0 by: Optimising investment performance while safeguarding contributors’ funds to deliver sustainable long-term returns; and unlocking pension assets as a dependable source of financing for national development.

PenCom stated that it will release further details and highlights of both the Revised Investment Regulation and the Securities Lending Circular in the coming days, noting that these reforms are expected to elevate the pension investment landscape to new heights.
