The African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) on Tuesday evening commenced its 50th anniversary celebrations with a colourful welcome cocktail reception at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, bringing together insurance leaders, regulators and industry stakeholders from across Africa.

The event, which marked the official arrival of delegates from African countries and representatives from other global institutions for the week-long Golden Jubilee celebration, provided a platform for networking and renewed commitment to advancing Africa’s insurance and reinsurance industry.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Nigeria’s Commissioner for Insurance, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, top insurance executives from across the continent, members of the Africa Re Board, chief executives of insurance and reinsurance companies, and the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Africa Re, Dr. Corneille Karekezi, alongside other distinguished guests.

The Golden Jubilee is being celebrated under the theme, “Reinsurance Excellence, Securing the Future,” reflecting the Corporation’s commitment to innovation, financial resilience and sustainable growth across Africa.

Established on February 24, 1976, Africa Re has grown into Africa’s leading reinsurance institution, providing underwriting capacity, technical expertise and risk management support to insurance companies across the continent. Over the past five decades, the Corporation has played a pivotal role in developing African insurance markets, strengthening underwriting capacity and promoting regional cooperation within the industry.
