Prioritise reporting cases at police stations over social media, Delta PPRO urges netizens

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has urged netizens to prioritise reporing cases at nearby police stations instead of wailing on social media.
The appeal came after a netizen accused Edafe in an X (formally Twitter) post on Wednesday that kidnapping was going on in Asaba, the state capital of Delta and the state police spokesperson was ridiculing the people that are crying out on social media.
The netizen wrote, “There is kidnapping going on in Asaba @Brightgoldenboy trying to taunt the people crying out Is shameful and wrong!
“I don’t know if it’s empathy that’s missing or something else but you quickly need to fix it and do your damn job well.“
Reacting to the allegation post after two hours, Edafe noted that social media can’t take the responsibilities of police stations, stating that he didn’t believe the state is insecure as people often exaggerate it on social media because they barely receive insecurity reports in stations.
He wrote, “I have absolutely nothing against anybody, but what I will continue to reiterate is that X, Instagram and other social media apps cannot take the place of a Police station.
“You keep saying there is kidnapping every day in Asaba, the same Asaba that I live with you without escort. The thing is it’s either it’s not happening as much as they are saying it or they are not reporting to the Police.
“Before you come and shout on social media, advise victims to report to the Police. Human rights activists and social media influencers have assumed the role of a police station and it’s not the best.”
