Protests spewed in Akure, Ondo State, on Tuesday following the abduction of nine surveyors in the Owode Ilu-Abo area of Akure South Local Government.
The surveyors, all from Akure, were working on a project at Owode Ilu-Abo when they were kidnapped.
In reaction, a group of women carrying placards took to the streets of Akure, blocking the busy Oba Adesida Road in protest.
The protesters are demanding the immediate release of the victims and have called on authorities to take stronger action against the rising wave of abductions in the region.
A lady who happened to be sister of one of the kidnapped surveyors, Comfort Afolabi, disclosed that the nine victims were abducted last week.
She stated that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N50 million before they would begin negotiations for their release, adding that the ransom amount has now been increased to N100 million for the victims’ freedom.
