The Delta State Police Command, on Friday evening, restored travellers’ safety after protesters blocked the Asaba-Benin expressway in Agbor and started beating passengers, destroying vehicles for over three hours.
The Delta State Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, in a post on Friday, stated that on the arrival of police, the protesters started throwing stones at them which led the police to forcefully disperse them with the use of tear gas.
Edafe wrote, “So we got a call that some so-called protesters blocked the Asaba-Benin expressway in Agbor, beating passengers and destroying vehicles for over three hours.
“The CP deployed the Deputy Commissioner of Police operations, who led tactical teams to Agbor. The protesters threw stones at the Police.
“They were forcefully dispersed with the use of tear gas and the road cleared for travellers to continue their journey. Violent protest is not protest, it is criminal.”
