Paris Saint-Germain have strengthened their reputation as the Premier League’s most difficult Champions League opponent after defeating Manchester City 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday dusk.

The win extended the French champions’ unbeaten run to 10 matches against English sides in the competition, during which they have scored 26 goals and conceded 10.

Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha put PSG 3-0 ahead in a dominant first half, before Maghnes Akliouche added a fourth.

Erling Haaland scored twice for City, while Ferran Torres missed a late penalty as Luis Enrique’s side held on for another statement European victory.

PSG’s recent record against English opposition includes victories over Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool, alongside draws with Newcastle United and Arsenal.

Their run also featured a penalty-shootout success over Arsenal in last season’s Champions League final, underlining their consistency against elite Premier League teams.

The last English club to beat PSG in the Champions League was Aston Villa, who won the second leg of their 2025 quarter-final.

That victory was not enough to overturn the tie, as PSG advanced and went on to win the competition.

The result also maintained PSG’s perfect start to this season’s league phase and reinforced their status as back-to-back European champions.

City, meanwhile, suffered a heavy home defeat in their first Champions League match since being found guilty of serious financial irregularities.
