Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has welcomed Pope Leon XIV at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in a meeting marked by warmth and mutual exchange.
This was made known in an announcement made available on Monday by the club.
“Florentino Pérez welcomed Pope Leon XIV at the Bernabéu, where a gathering with the diocesan community of Madrid took place,” the club wrote.
Pérez presented the pontiff “with a personalised jersey of our team featuring his first name (Robert F. Prevost) and the number 1, along with a replica of the stadium.”
It said Pope Leon XIV reciprocated by giving “a medal to the president of Real Madrid.”
