A group of women in Port Harcourt showed their support for the recently declared state of emergency in Rivers State by taking to the streets.

Wearing white and holding placards with messages like “Prosecute the attackers of Rivers Assembly” and “State of emergency is legal,” the women expressed strong approval for Ibok-Ete Ibas being appointed as the state’s sole administrator.

They marched through important locations in Port Harcourt, singing songs of solidarity and chanting in favour of the emergency actions.

This demonstration comes after another protest on April 11 against the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu.

Dailyeconomy reports that emergency rule, announced on March 18, was initiated by an extended political crisis in the oil-rich state. Alongside Fubara, the president also suspended Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and the entire state assembly for an initial six-month period and a retired naval officer, Ibok-Ete Ibas, was immediately installed as the interim head of the state administration.
