Barcelona winger, Lamine Yamal has named himself and Kylian Mbappé as the two best players in the world, while insisting that his trophy haul makes him a leading candidate for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Speaking in an interview with Movistar+, the 19-year-old said his performances and achievements with Barcelona and Spain justified his claim.

“I think it’s clear for those who watch football matches that me and Kylian Mbappé are the best in the world,” Yamal said.

Yamal has enjoyed a remarkable run of success at a young age, winning the 2024 European Championship and the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Spain, alongside three La Liga titles with Barcelona.

He has also received individual recognition, including the La Liga Player of the Season award.

The Spain international compared his early achievements with those of football greats such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona and Pelé.

“There are great players like Messi, Cristiano and Maradona, but I think it’s never happened before that someone has won so much at such an early age,” he said.

“There was Pelé, but in recent times, never, I think,” he added.

Despite his success, Yamal dismissed suggestions that winning major trophies could make him relax or reduce his ambition.

“People have this mindset that because I’ve won, maybe I’ll relax with my career at some point. No,” the Barcelona star said.

He said he remained determined to achieve more and establish himself among football’s greatest players.

“I know I have a thousand things to do to stay in football history,” Yamal added.
