Real Madrid forward, Rodrygo Silva de Goes has expressed his disappointment following his exclusion from the 2024 Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Despite a strong season where he scored 17 goals and provided nine assists, the 23-year-old Brazilian was not among the 30 nominees for the prestigious award.

In his remarks, Rodrygo described the snub as “painful” and voiced his belief that he deserved a place on the list, attributing his omission to a lack of recognition for his versatility on the field.

“I felt I contributed significantly to my team’s success.

“I was upset when I saw they didn’t include me in Ballon d’Or nominees.

“I think I deserved it. I don’t want to belittle the players who are there, but I think I had a place. It was a surprise but there is not much I can do, I don’t make decisions.”

Rodrygo received considerable public support following the announcement, with fans and analysts alike questioning the decision to overlook his contributions.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or nominees which include the Super Eagle’s forward, Ademola Lookaman were announced on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, and the ceremony will take place on October 28, 2024.

However, two new recognitions are set to be awarded: Men’s Coach of the Year and Women’s Coach of the Year, recognising the contribution of coaches to success on the pitch.
