Sowore condemns “state-sponsored” blockade of Obi’s convoy in Benue

Omoyele Sowore, a 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has condemned what he described as a state-sponsored blockade and attack on the convoy of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi in Benue State.
The incident occurred as Obi tried to reach Makurdi, the state capital, for activities that included condolence visits to communities affected by violence.
According to reports, youths blocked roads near Makurdi, chanted against Obi, and allegedly pursued his vehicles, with Obi attributing the mobilization to a state governor’s aide amid heightened security and political tensions.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Sowore said he had viewed videos showing “what appears to be a state-sponsored blockade and attack on NDC presidential candidate @PeterObi as he attempted to enter the state capital to carry out legitimate campaign activities.
“I strongly condemn these acts of political brigandage by agents of the state government and the Tinubu regime. This is totally unacceptable,” he wrote.
Sowore warned that no candidate should be prevented “through violence, intimidation or state-sponsored thuggery from campaigning freely anywhere in Nigeria,” adding that those behind the attacks were “toying with fire and threatening the democratic rights of all Nigerians.”
“They must desist immediately before it is too late,” he said.
