The African Action Congress (AAC), led by Omoyele Sowore, has formally asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for the inauguration of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council on November 11, 2026.
The party also requested food, drinks and logistical support for 5,000 participants from Nigeria and abroad.
In a letter dated October 21, 2026, signed by AAC National Secretary Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the party said the event was part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The letter read, “On behalf of the African Action Congress (AAC), I respectfully write to request approval to hold the inauguration ceremony of our Presidential Campaign Council on the 11th of November 2026 at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, in preparation for the 2027 general elections.”
AAC said it was also seeking refreshments and operational support for attendees, citing what it described as comparable treatment extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for 5,000 participants from home and abroad at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement,” the letter stated.
The opposition party framed the request as a test of the Presidency’s commitment to political inclusion and non-partisan access to public institutions.
“We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination,” AAC wrote.
The party asked the President for a favourable response and details of “the applicable procedures and conditions” for approval.
The request followed President Tinubu’s inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa on October 14, 2026, ahead of the ruling party’s campaign activities for the 2027 election.
AAC had earlier announced the creation of the Sowore–Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, with directorates covering policy, grassroots mobilisation, digital media and election operations across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Presidency had not responded to the AAC’s request at the time of this report.
