Troops dismantle illegal bunkering site in Lagos, arrest suspects

Troops of the 65 Battalion have successfully raided and dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six individuals and recovering items linked to the illicit operation.
The operation took place on 16 July 2026, based on credible intelligence about the activities of suspected economic saboteurs in the area.
According to a statement obtained from the Nigerian Army statement, “Troops of 65 Battalion have successfully dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, leading to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of items linked to the illicit activity.”
Items recovered during the raid included four drums, two of which contained suspected illegally refined petroleum products, along with a white Ford bus and a tanker believed to have been used in the illegal operation.
The suspects and recovered items were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos State Command for further investigation and prosecution.
The handover was carried out by the Commanding Officer, 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S Adeojo.
Major General Adebayo Babalola, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their professionalism and swift response.
He stated, “The achievement reflects the Division’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and denying criminal elements the freedom to operate within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.”
The GOC urged troops to maintain momentum in such operations and called on members of the public to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies.
