Prominent commentator VeryDarkMan has denounced the remand of activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore at Kuje Correctional Centre.
VDM while speaking in a post on Monday accused Nigeria’s justice system of corruption and alleging that courts are manufacturing reasons to keep critics behind bars.
“Omoyele Sowore has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre until Wednesday. All I can see here is corruption in the justice system of Nigeria,” VeryDarkMan said.
He said the charges against Sowore stem from a claim that the activist called President Bola Tinubu “a thief” and that prosecutors then demanded Sowore prove the allegation.
VeryDarkMan added that the court revoked Sowore’s bail by asserting he missed a court appearance despite what he said was clear video evidence showing Sowore was present.
“He was in court but the court revoked his bail and claimed he was never in court, even though there was video evidence,” he said.
Sowore, a long-standing government critic and leader of the #RevolutionNow movement, was ordered remanded to Kuje after a hearing that sparked online outrage and allegations of judicial impropriety.
Sowore’s remand is set to last until Wednesday, when he is expected back before the court.
