Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has claimed that its troops repelled a coordinated ISWAP attack in the Buratai axis and launched a “devastating” counter-offensive that inflicted heavy losses on the terrorists.

In a statement signed on Friday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, the command said ISWAP fighters struck positions at Dusten Kura and Chara Road in Biu Local Government Area in the early hours of 19 June.

Alert soldiers, backed by robust intelligence, detected the incursion and executed a coordinated air-and-ground response.

“The prompt and effective employment of the Air Component of OPHK, particularly Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance as well as precision strike platforms from the Nigerian Air Force, proved decisive,” the statement said.

According to the command, precision air support integrated with ground forces to disrupt the assault, inflict heavy casualties on the attackers and force them to flee in confusion.

The theatre command reported no casualties among its troops and said insurgents suffered significant personnel and equipment losses.

It described the operation as evidence of OPHK’s high state of readiness and the effective synergy between air and ground elements in the North East theatre.

The command urged the public to continue providing timely intelligence and remain vigilant, adding that OPHK will “continue to sustain aggressive offensive operations to decisively degrade terrorist capabilities and restore lasting peace to the region.”

Captain Goni concluded, “The Theatre Command remains committed to denying insurgents freedom of action and ensuring the safety of law‑abiding citizens across the North East theatre.”
