Speaking at a press conference in Uyo on Friday, Governor Eno said the decision came after “three months of wide consultation” with key stakeholders across Akwa Ibom.

He expressed gratitude to the PDP for their support but underlined the need for a “progressive move” to align the state with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu.

“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” Eno declared.

He added, “We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness, we are joining the APC from a position of strength. I admire President Bola Tinubu and believe this alignment will bring continuous benefits to Akwa Ibom State”.

The defection was witnessed by several APC governors, including Hope Uzodimma (Imo State), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State), and others who came to Uyo to welcome Eno into the party.

Governor Eno also directed his commissioners and political appointees to defect with him or resign, affirming his control over the state’s political structure despite leaving the PDP, Dailyeconomy reports.

This move ends over 25 years of PDP dominance in Akwa Ibom and signals a new political era for the state ahead of upcoming election.
